DIY Poster Frame

Hi there, 2 posts in a row, am I being possessed? No, I just randomly feel like being a crafty gal today. 

So, this afternoon I went to print out some photos from several trips with my fam and homies in my local photo printing shop. There, I saw photo frames in various sizes and suddenly I remember that I do want to hang my precious poster on the wall but I don't really want to spend 250k IDR for a frame. I decided to google "DIY frame" and the first result that popped out was "DIY frame using cardboard". I close my Safari and I processed my thoughts. I'll definitely make my own DIY poster frame using unused cardboard. 

I finished the DIY poster frame in about 2 hours, my spine was crying and my room is a mess, but I saved up my 250k so I think this is kind of worth the time I spent.

I'll type down all the step-by-step with some photos. Hope this will be quite useful for y'all.

I dedicated this post to my fellow broke-ass friend who wants to save up her money too. this post is for you, bich. Awright, let's jump into the tuts.

step minus 1:

measure the size of your poster and find the cardboard with a proper length accordingly. 

for example, my poster is 55cmx42cm so I need to have my cardboard a bit longer than 55cm--60cm. And for the width, I use the same number as the poster, 42cm.  

step zero:

prepare your DIY poster frame supplies:
1. a glue
2. 1 piece of gift wrapping paper of your choice
3. a pretty sturdy cardboard
4. a marker
5. a pair of scissors
6. a ruler
7. a thick wire to hang the poster on the wall - 6 cm

flatten your poster using whatever you have

step 1: 

I only took the pic of the 3 cm thick cardboard  for the backside because I'm a sloppy mess

cut out 8 pieces of cardboard.
2 cm thickness:             2 front horizontal sides & two front vertical sides (A)
3 or 3,5 cm thickness: 2 back horizontal sides & two back vertical sides  (B)

cut out the gift wrapping paper according to the measurement of the cardboard. you only need to cut 4 pieces for the front sides (A). let the back sides (B) be their ugly selves. 

step 2: 

glue down the wrapping paper to the (A) part cardboard.

step 3: 

before poking a hole as I show in the pic, please be mindful of the poster you're using. is it a landscape poster? or portrait poster?
if it is a landscape poster, poke a hole in the longer piece of cardboard.
a portrait poster? poke a hole in the shorter piece of the cardboard!

I messed up so I have two versions of these lmao,,

after you poke holes in the cardboard, loop the thick wire like so:

and glue it down on the back using black sticky tape or transparent or whatever sticky tape of your choice, like so:

step 4:

glue down (B) parts to the back of the poster.

(!) make sure to leave enough space for (A) parts to stick on.

step 5: 

ta-dah. make sure you do it just like I did in the photo

glue down the (A) parts like so

finished? No! Don't you think those edges are freaking ugly? we don't want those in this household.

last steps:

cut out 4 pieces of leftover wrapping paper to cover those ugly edges

do it like so, I don't even remember how I wrap it, freestyle time? lmao.

now it's less ugly
